Preparing Images for Competition

The Nevada Camera Club would like to offer some suggestions for processing and guidelines for your photographs for submission to the Monthly Print and/or Electronic Competitions. We are hoping that by following these simple guidelines should eliminate the color distortion some members are encountering. Color Profiling and Color Management is the key to a quality finished photographs whether projecting or printing.

Intoduction to Color Management

To get a firm grasp on Color Management you need to understand a few terms and what they mean: RGB is short for Red, Green, and Blue. It is the most popular way to define a color. CMYK is short for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and blacK. It is an alternative to defining color than RGB. It is almost exclusively used for commercial printing like magazines and books. For the purpose of this document we will ignore CMYK. 8 bit color depth means there are 256 steps for each of the RGB colors.
