The club hosts 1-2 field trips per month, depending on the time of year. All skill levels are welcome, we all learn from each other. The goal is for everyone to have a great time, take a great shot, and learn something new or share a special skill. And of course to hang out with like minded people who can stand in the desert for hours on end waiting for light to change!!
We are coming up on Milky Way "season" when the galactic core will soon be visible above the horizon in the night sky. Our field trip to El Dorado Canyon on April 15th from 4:45pm - 10:00pm will offer an excellent opportunity to hone your night shooting skills on the pre-core Milky Way and do some fun light painting. This field trip is $20 per person and it's limited to 15 members, first come, first serve. We will have a short safety meeting prior to heading out to shoot. Please reply to the email blast if you'd like to attend.
It's also wildflower time, so for Earth Day, Sunday April 22 we will go on a nature walk looking for wildflowers in bloom, offering good macro opportunities. We haven't determined our exact location yet, it will be where the flowers are. We have scouts checking out the area. On a side note, the beaver tail cactus are blooming beautifully around the Nevada Railroad Museum/ Boulder City Railroad tracks as of Sunday, 4/9.
In May we will host 2 field trips, one on May 5 to the Lights Festival in Mesquite, NV. This is a spectacular release of thousands of laterns into the night sky. Absolutely amazing to witness!! There is a fee, check the website for up to date information
On May 20th we have a field trip to the Nevada Railroad Museum in Boulder City. We'll meet appx 8am for a safety lecture then we'll pretty much have full run of the place with our guide until 2 or so in the afternoon. Thanks to Frank and his dedicated co-workers who will be taking us on behind the scenes tours of train engines and cars that are not usually open to the public. For this event you must wear you NCC badge to gain access behind the scenes.
We will have an out of town field trip to Goldfield, NV in September (appx dates are 9/7-9/10 for the new moon) for shooting the Milky Way and The International Car Forest of the Last Church, a very cool location. Check it out here
All of this information will be sent via email blast to all members prior to the event with more details. In the mean time, you can check the calendar or the newsletter for details on the next field trip. You can contact Karla Jordan, field trips chairman if you have any questions.
We hope to see you out there!!
