For those who would like to join us, we will do a meet up field trip to photograph Hoover Dam at dusk and dark with the lights on, next Tuesday evening March 11th. Plan on meeting at 5:30 PM so we can take some pictures before sunset which is at 6:45 PM. Remember Day Light Savings is this Sunday and we move our clocks ahead by one hour.
Put Hoover Dam in your phone for directions, but take Highway 11 south east toward Henderson and then toward Boulder City. Highway 11 now goes around Boulder City and you will see an off ramp with signs toward Hoover Dam. Follow the signs and road down to the dam, drive across the dam to the Arizona side and come up to parking area #12. You see our new NCC flag there.
Bring your camera, wide angle lens, and tripod. This will be a good opportunity to practice photographing in low light and dark. The weather forecast calls for partial clouds and cool. Dress appropriately. The dam closes at 9:00 PM but we probably will not stay that late. The parking area #12 will be a good place to photograph the dam from the lake side. If you choose to you can walk across the dam to the Nevada side to some viewing areas that see the downstream side of the dam. If you want to go early, you can park in an area above the dam on the Nevada side and walk out on the bridge to get a view from there of the downstream side of the dam. That bridge closes at dusk and there are quite a few steps up to the bridge.
