<p><span lang="EN" style="font-family: Raleway;">Our April Field trip to the Arboretum and Carlsbad was a huge success and fun was had by all who attended. Not only did we take fabulous pictures but became better acquainted with people we already knew and started new friendships with club members we didn&rsquo;t know prior to this trip.<br /><br />On Saturday, May 30th our Field trip will take us to Valley of Fire State Park and will be led by Harriet Smith.&nbsp; The meeting time will be 6:30 AM and the meeting place, for those who wish to car pool will be the Cannery Casino in North Las Vegas. It is on the SW corner of Craig&nbsp;and Losee, just west of the I-15 - Craig Rd exit..</span><span lang="EN" style="font-family: Raleway;"> 2121 East Craig Rd., North Las Vegas.&nbsp; Once arriving at the Valley of Fire we will all meet at the Visitor Center, at 8:00 AM, for a quick review of the park and show everyone on the park map where we will meet for lunch in casill some want to do their own thing for part of the day. I am working on a Ranger taking us on a walk through an area that is beautiful in the early afternoon and has great photo opts but will stay for sunset pictures as well if it doesn&#39;t get too hot.<br /><br />Valley of Fire is Nevada&rsquo;s oldest and largest state park, dedicated in 1935. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyphs. Popular activities include camping, hiking, picnicking and photography. The park offers a full-scale visitor center with extensive interpretive displays. Several group use areas are also available.<br /><br />Directions to Valley of Fire State Park?<br />From Las Vegas:<br />Take I-15 North to exit #75. Take a right at the end of the exit ramp and follow the road heading towards the Valley of Fire State Park. The park is approximately 11 miles east of I-15.<br />&nbsp;<br />The park is open all year. Valley of Fire State Park is six miles from Lake Mead and 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas via Interstate 15 and on exit 75. The entrance fee is $10.00 per vehicle.<br /><br />Various reptiles such as snakes, lizards, and desert tortoises are found throughout the park. Also mammals such as bighorn sheep, coyotes, kit fox, and the white tailed antelope ground squirrel.<br /><br />There are no restaurants or cafes, but there are snacks and cold drinks sold in the Nevada State Parks gift shop. Off road driving is prohibited in the park. It is against the law to remove any rock, plant, or animal life from the park.
